Looking for Good News...

Robert C. Winter III

If I had a blog I would want to look for the good news about the success stories of former Action Trav'lers. I would want them to know that I am still here; that I am well, and we have volunteers interested in hearing their stories of great adventures after having left the Action Trav'lers club for career and life!

To be sure there will be tragedies and sad stories, but they’re also the successes, and any life work is worthy even if you don’t make millions. Remember our motto about constructive activity? Well, any activity that makes a positive difference for others is a great work of life! I know that one of you has become a plumber and that is a very great job of helping others of our human community! Others are in the construction business while some are in financial, Medical and caregiver jobs!

News I received lately tells of the world travel of Sherri Valenti Firth, an Action Trav'ler who returned from Africa after a mission trip, with a side trip to visit some elephants and brought back exciting research into the elements that even elephant dung brings to other life forms. I also learned that John Sapp is a specialist in hand surgery and has made a great difference in his field working in a middle Georgia hospital.

It is great to hear such good news and I hope that all of you former Action Trav'lers out there who see the webpage or have the Facebook contacts will make sure that we get the message of what you’re doing in life. Some of you may be mechanics like Rodney Ray and Thad Heaney. Some of you might be electricians or technicians and some may drive trucks or other vehicles!

It is all good if you made that difference... so please let us know any good news about what you are doing and how you became involved in Action Trav'lers to start with! Any information you send in would be appreciated. Thank you!

Not all of us can report only good news. Tragedy abounds in the world of today, and many of you former Action Trav'lers have lost friends and family or suffered illness or accidents. For the record, any update on the lives or the losses needs to be part of our database unless there is a request that it be confidential. After all, we are here for you who were part of the intrepid teams of campers and adventurers up through the end of the seventies. We also include those who were part of our educational program, living and learning English in Valdosta.

You can email us your story!
